Scraps Tutorial

Before I tell you what I did with some lovely scraps this week...let me tell you I am sitting here watching the new show Mobbed and it made me cry...I was just so overwhelmed for that girl...oh goodness...so much emotion.....anyway. Well I have told you before of my love for crafty trash....I had just finished making a pile of fabric roses and the long strips of vintage sheets that were left over, well I can't just throw those away. I took the seam of one pillowcase and started there since it's kind of like a cord.
Then I tore each strip into smaller strips...like 1 x 15.
Then I tied them all onto the cord...simple.

Trim them up if you like or leave them all uneven and messy this suited me fine and it just may suit you too.
It's so dainty and airy
and soft and springy.

I know just where it is goin...and when I get the whole wall done you know I'll show you.

I think this would be adorable at the top of a curtain, shower curtain, mirror or on a mantle.

Don't ever ever ever throw away your scraps.....ever....there is purdy left in them.

A Hollerin' Mean Face

OK FIRST LET ME SAY I APOLOGIZE....BLOGGER WOULD ACCEPT NO SPACING AT ALL FOR THIS POST.......SORRY IT'S ALL JUMBLED UP. This morning we awoke to torrents of rain, thunder and lightening. We showered, dressed, ate breakfast and chit chatted about the day to come to the tune of rain on the roof and windows. At the same time as we have done sooo many times before Chloe and I piled into the car for the ride to school. As we pulled into the school on this day something struck me.....you see everyday since Chloe has been in big kid school I have parked my car and walked her in as opposed to dropping her off in the car rider line.....it was more for me than for her, I loved walking her in and seeing her be-bop down the hall, it started my day off right. Well a few weeks ago she asked me to start dropping her off....and after a little private inside hissy fit I obliged. OK, back to this morning....as we pulled in I realized she would have to walk in....in the RAIN. Not just pitter patter....RAIN...big drops...heavy drops....and thunder and lightening. Oh no...not my baby....in just her little hood...cause Lord know she could not handle and umbrella and her gargantuan backpack. Now...as the lovely diagram shows you.....see the road...well you pull into the school lot down at the bottom and you are supposed to file in to the left all the way around to the X until that road beside that little bright green sidewalk is full of cars ( maybe 8 cars or so)...then after all those kids file out....another line of cars can pull in....got it ? Well as we turned the corner this morning I was counting cars and calculating so I could kinda guess where I would be letting Chloe out I noticed I would be the first car....yep....you guessed it...all the way down to the X...meaning my munchkin would have the longest possible walk to the door.... in the RAIN...did I mention the RAIN ? So...what to you think I did ? Mhmm...pulled my little car right up to the door and let my sunshine out.....arrrrghhhhh..holy cow in the morning....I was met by a loud hollerin' mean face yelling at me to pull all the way down...pull all the way down.....PULL ALL THE WAY DOWN. Well duh...I know this lady....you know me and you see me DAILY and you know I KNOW where to pull....but honey cakes...it is raining and storming and my precious is sure to melt....so wipe that snarl off your face.....it's ok....the day will still go on. I know I sound completely arrogant and crazy and of course I know Chloe would not melt...but I just could not let her out way down at the X...sorry...you would have done the same thing....right ?? And if you need me to make any maps for diagrams for you....let me know....obviously I could not charge much !!! Ha!!

Goins On Round Here

The weather was so nice last week, nice enough to open up the windows and let the sun shine in. The very second Daisy hears the window open up she is in it, alarming us to each and every thing she sees move and on a windy day this is torture for she barks at even a blowing leaf.
This shelf was light blue which caused it to blend in with my new wall....so to the paint patio she went and I love her fresh shade of teal.
Red paint, oh it makes anything better. Except for toes in my opinion.... I like light pink on my toes.
I added a few more elements to the mantle and harth.
I got this leaning shelf at a consignment shop I love that it gives me somewhere to put more goodies.
Perhaps my favorite goins on of this past week is a new addition.
Can you believe I just now got myself a chalkboard. I'm the last one I know.

I said to my mom...I need a chalkboard, and as usual she replied

"oh I have one in the basement"

Oh JOY...can I have it?

It is an old chalkboard from my home church they were going to toss it.
and as is appropriate of any vintage, antique, junk loving lady....she saved it.
and I am so glad...because we LOVE it.

Chicken Taquitos and Fancy Dinner for Kids

Nope...I could never be a food blogger or write a lovely cookbook.
Couple reasons why.
I don't cook that well.
I make HUGE messes....it's not pretty.
And...the above photo is always the point when it hits me that I should blog the prep and cooking of this dish.
So you get no pretty photo of all the ingredients all lined up.
You walk right into my mess.
Oh well...come on let's go and I promise thanks to Sara at Our Best Bites
you will have pretty photos and step by step instructions to look at along the way.

Oh and go there for the recipe too.

Alright so...we in my house loathe cilantro and green onions so I left those out.

I was tempted to leave out the green salsa too, because we have never had it but I took a risk and included it......glad I did.
I always shred my cheese I don't like pre-shredded cheese. I know it's probably the same, it's just me.
When you get your shredded chicken, cheese and other ingredients mixed up good put it in your tortillas (I used flour no corn) and roll them up tight. I made 10 taquitos.
This is the green salsa I used....in case you have no clue what to buy...this one was very very good.
Before popping them in the oven spray them with cooking spray and sprinkle with kosher salt.

So fast....these were done in 10 minutes.
Serve with black beans....a perfect meal.
These were so so good....creamy...cheesey...crunchy tortilla.....all things that I love.
I didn't miss the cilantro or green onions at all.
To make it fancy and special for Chloe I went to pandora and created a Mexican music station. It spices up the atmosphere and Chloe loves theme music at dinner.
This began when I made pizza on Valentine's Day and created an Italian station, the music added such a touch to dinner and now it's something we all enjoy doing.
It's very easy to do for instance today I googled Mexican Restaurant Music and found the name of a Mexican artist (musician).
Then I go to pandora and search that musician or a song...then Pandora will play music "like" that artist or song.
It's continuous and plays all thru dinner....so fun !!
If you let it play while clean up is going on Daddy may dance while he's washing dishes that's a treat too....not that I have seen that (wink).

Swell Seven

This week's Swell Seven is a little heavy on the food side...could be because I am on day 6 of the 30 Day Shred, I have not changed my eating habits but I am starving all the time. So yea....swell food caught my eye this week over and over.
Old skool yarn balls....Chloe and I are making these....hope I think the sticky mess she will make is as swell as the yummy yarn balls.

I love a little salt with my sugar....these chocolate dipped potato chips are akin to eating fries with a chocolate milkshake...yum.
The next time I make something with melted chocolate I will be dipping a few potato chips in said melted chocolate.

Perfect Easter treat......check these cute bunnies out here.
These vases from West Elm scream Spring.
Creamy Chicken Taquitos.....anything creamy makes me weak in the knees.

One word....adorable. Kids will love making these cookie bird nests....and we (the moms) will love displaying them....at least until they are all gobbled up.

I know I know....what on earth could be swell about a carpet steamer ?? I never saw myself being the carpet steamer owner type.....I LOVE this thing...serious...LOVE it. More on my new Hoovie later.

Just some stuff floating around in my head.........

1. Why oh why when you give your dog(s) a treat must they carry it to a rug or carpet to eat it, and this is especially bothersome when it's a cracker with peanut butter on it.

2. Why is it so difficult to hold your abs in and tight while working out.....each and every time the instructor reminds the group to tighten up our abs, I realize I am not doing it ? Tight....hold....pull in.....ARgghh....what is so difficult about that?

3. Hines Ward on Dancing with the Stars.....whoop whooop....LOVE that...serious....love it. Go Steeler Man !!
