Hearts or Not

I bought new dog bowls.
I don't know why, these dog bowls clearly serve the purpose
they hold the food for the dogs to eat it.
They are cute, the color (TEAL) is perfect, they say DOG across the front.
They are great.

But.....

Today I saw these are Target in the $2.50 section.
Ceramic hearts, I put them in my cart and rode them around
I debated putting them back a dozen times and even twice more while checking out.
Couldn't do it.

So I love them but I still love the old bowls too.
What to do ???

Business

Red Velvet

Don't ask me why I had the desire to make something sweet after the over-indulgence that was Christmas having just left us.

I have never made anything red velvet in my life and I have had this recipe on my Pinterest Treats board for a while now.
So I decided this was the sweet to attempt .... plus
Garren loves red velvet.
Chloe loves anything sweet.
And ... I love red.

The above photo..not my cupcake..nope not so much.
I am real bad to jump into recipes BEFORE I read the entire recipe and this time while it did not cost me flavor (they are delicious) but,  it did cost me looks.

Those cupcakes up there are Monica's at Lick the Bowl Good.

I started to set out all the ingredients and do the "blog" photo and then I retreated.
My goal in blogging is not to plan my posts as I often do, I need to let my posts happen and then that
too keeps my from planning the "event" which thus leads to me stressing over the "event" and not enjoying the "event".
So here we are mid-baking. No planning here people.
Chloe thought the little white pile there in the bottom left corner was sugar. 
No.
Salt.
She left the kitchen for 3 minutes mad as a hornet at me.
She returned when I told her I was fixing to turn things RED.

I LOVE that batter.

I have a question.
Chloe picks out the fancy cupcake liners, I would personally always use the cheapy pastel or metal looking ones but she wants the nice fancy ones.
Well, these fancy ones, they are not pretty after the baking is done.  The oil and grease from the cupcake
saturates the liner and then they are just, well ... ugly.
Is there a trick?
Is there something I am missing ?

Time to fill the cups.
This is where a  little reading would have paid off.
It should have been.
Red batter 1/3 of the way full.
Then the white batter in a layer.
Then red again and then a  white dot.
Think Target.

Here is my red, then my white.
My white would not really make a layer more like a dollop.

And then red again.

Done.
Not the bulls eye look but the white does peek thru here and there.
They are really good.
Not too sweet, just right.
I may up the cream cheese next time OR I may ice them. 
I doubled the recipe because 8 cupcakes is just a tease for us.

Yum.

No Bribes Were Offered

Much to my surprise I didn't have to threaten anyone or bribe anyone to take part in my
oooey gooey What A Year It's Been questionnaire.

I printed these this morning from Thirty Handmade Days.

Yes it's a printable for kids, but I thought it would be good for us mature folks too.

Not too serious and just meaty enough to make us think of our wishes for the new year and

the parts of 2011 that stuck with us.

See .... I told you I was gonna have to buy a horse.

Love that spending time with family was what she loved most about 2011....I do love that kid to pieces.

Ha .... favorite food pizza....I do not cook pizza.....what does that say ??

That Chicken  Marsala that I love so much, that would be from Carrabba's, it's just my most favorite dish.

I know I know to have a blog worthy, yes that should say worthy not worth, of sponsors I need to blog everyday with interesting content....that will be a BIG CHALLENGE.  We shall see..........I'll not break my neck to do it....but we'll see.

OK so again...Tacos.. those would be.from a box.   Maybe I should have had a cooking goal for 2012 ??

Never knew he wanted to speak Spanish, maybe so he can go somewhere and order "real" tacos seeing as mine are always from a box.

No mystery he loves that Chloe is playing sports....he wants her to be the best !! 

Wonder how long it would take to hike the Appalachian Trail  .... long enough for me to re-do a few rooms while he's gone ?

2011

We had sooo much snow in January, it was fantabulous !!!

Our Valentine photo shoot in February turned into some really cute valentines

and hours of fun.

While this was actually a February event, my new precious niece Sunny

came to visit me in March.

She smelled so good.

My sweetie and my other sweetie were in the home run derby in April.

They both won first place.

It was all we could talk about for days.

Chloe tried out softball in May.

She sure is cute huh ?

In June we drew with sparklers.

Some shapes are easier than others....duh.

In July Chloe turned the BIG 7 with her best buddies by

her side.

Bowling anyone ??

August was Disney month.

My favorite place on earth.

People always ask so let me tell you

this awesome photo backdrop is at Hollywood Studios at the

Streets of America.

Took Chloe to her first county fair in September.

Oh the people you see at the fair.

I got my first cowboy boots in October.

They are my favorite shoes to date.

In November we took part in the Boosterthon fundraiser at

our school.

This is the BEST school fundraiser I have ever took part in.

AWESOME !!!!!

December, just 5 short week out of open heart surgery my Grandpa

was able to hold his great granddaughters ... he calls them his jewels, at Christmas.

So  happy !!

Do you know how hard it was to choose just one photo from each month

of 2011.  I could do this post 10 times over.

New Years Day

Finally feeling like myself .... the holidays pack a punch.

Disorganization and mess get me out of whack

All the decor, gifts and mess is put away.

All the rooms have been cleaned and cleaned out and

seeing as I am not a pack rat it's always pretty quick and painless.

I have went to Target twice, no three times since Christmas.

I usually get up early and catch the day after Christmas deals

but this year I stayed in bed.

There was nothing at Target I needed more than sleep this year.

But, I did go later, much later that day.

I snagged lots of ornaments for next year.

Some ribbon.

Loads of felt heart ornaments which double as GREAT Valentine decor.

On my second trip I grabbed a tray and 2 small sequin trees I had my eye on

for 70% off.

I do I do love Target.

Oh and today I went for a few groceries and grabbed this cute trio of bags

only $10.   I love em'.

I had a purse in my hand to but it was only 30% off, it will go cheaper.

This I know.





This is the new message on the hallway chalkboard.

The Grass Is Greener Where You Water It.

You know that is so true.

In 2012, keep your watering can handy.

I gave the lovely framed crewel piece to my mom a while back.

Is it ok if I regret it ?

Chloe's love right now is horses.

We only have a big enough yard for play horses.

She keeps reminding me of that fact.

Does every kid eventually want a gigantic animal ?

I am making this Cheesy Chicken and Rice Bake

tonight or tomorrow.

It calls for salsa.

I dislike jarred salsa very  much and I don't make my own....yet.

Anyone know of a delicious one or a good substitute ??

I did not eat black eyed peas and greens today but my husband did

I hope that transfers to me that would stink if only he

got rich.
